Fill in the blanks with the most appropriate first-person singular pronoun:
- “They enjoyed you arguing in favour of it and ___ against”
- I
- me
- my
- mine
- “They enjoyed your arguing in favour of it and ___ against”
- I
- me
- my
- mine
Question #1 is easy: it can only be option #b.
Question #2 is hard. I guess it has to be #d. Right?
I would think so. “They enjoyed your arguing in favour of it and mine as well.” With the contrast on “your/mine”, as opposed to “in favour/against” it seems a clearer choice, maybe because the gapping is more natural.
2: C. It’s “my arguing against” surely?
But that’s not a pronoun! Perhaps you want to vote for option (e) “no pronoun works here”?
Dammit, a read-the-fine-print question. I want my €20 back.
